Healthy Soils Program

WHAT IS HSP?

The Healthy Soils Program provides financial incentives directly to California growers and ranchers to implement conservation management practices that sequester carbon, reduce atmospheric greenhouse gases (GHGs), and improve soil health

ON-FARM MANAGEMENT PRACTICES

  • Mulching
  • Compost Application
  • Herbaceous and Woody Plantings
  • Cover Cropping
  • No/Reduced Tillage

 

BENEFITS

  • Improves plant health
  • Supports wildlife habitats
  • Reduces greenhouse gases and sequesters soil carbon
  • Reduces soil erosion and on-farm dust
  • Improves water and air quality
  • Increases soil water-holding capacity
